Our Team

We are a group of highly trained professionals who are here to help you journey through the diagnosis and treatment of your orthopaedic and spinal condition.
Mr Mark Sherwood - Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon BMedSc, MBChB (Otago, 1991) (FRACS 2001) Mr Sherwood is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon who completed his advanced training in spinal surgery in New Zealand and Australia.  He treats general orthopaedic conditions and does hip and knee joint replacement surgery.  He has a special interest in the treatment of adult spinal conditions including spinal injuries, age-related degeneration, spinal deformity and tumours. He also treats scoliosis and complex spinal conditions in children. He performs surgeries at Wakefield Hospital and Southern Cross Hospital.  Mr Sherwood worked at Wellington Regional Hospital as a registrar and then as a consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon for 18 years. He is passionate about international charitable mission surgery. For his sabbatical in mid 2012 he developed strategic collegial relationships with spinal surgeon colleagues in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel.  In late November 2012, he joined a team of volunteer spinal surgeons to do scoliosis surgery at FOCOS Hospital in Ghana, Africa.  He has performed spine surgery in the pacific island of Tonga on a number of occasions and in 2015 and 2017 he returned to Ghana to again be involved with the FOCOS orthopaedic programme.
Dr Ate Moala - Practice Clinical Manager MBChB 1986, Otago, MPH, FAFPHM 2003 Public Health Dr Ate Moala graduated from Otago Medical school 32 years ago. She has a wide range of clinical experience in hospital and community medicine having worked in New Zealand and in the Pacific. She is a mother of three children. In her spare time, she prays and runs Purely Girls Camp, a youth development programme for teenage girls that she founded in 2007.
Master 'Amanaki Sherwood - Office Assistant 'Amanaki has been drawing ever since he could hold a pen. Patients and visitors to Pacific Orthopaedics will see some of 'Amanaki's awesome drawings on the wall. Most of these pictures he drew at ages 3 and 4 years while he was patiently hanging around waiting for his Dad to finish seeing the patients.

Mr Sai Vea - Practice Business Manager BCA, CA, Dip Prof Accy - Accounting & Commercial Law (VUW, 2000) Sai Vea is a NZ trained Chartered Accountant. Prior to joining Pacific Orthopaedics in 2006, he had worked for five years at Ernst & Young, Accounting Firm, in Assurance and Advisory Services.  He oversees the business and administrative aspects of Pacific Orthopaedics.  In addition to world travel, touch rugby and playing his guitar, mentoring youth and investing in the wellbeing of the next generation is something close to his heart.
