Mr Mark Sherwood - Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon
BMedSc, MBChB (Otago, 1991), FRACS 2001
Mr Sherwood is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon who
completed his advanced training in spinal surgery in New Zealand
and Australia. He has been working as a specialist spinal surgeon
for more than 20 years and has been a medical doctor for more
than 30 years.
He is an expert in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of adult
spinal injuries and conditions including age-related degeneration,
spinal deformity and tumours. He also treats scoliosis and
complex spinal conditions in children.
He performs surgeries at Wakefield Hospital and Southern Cross
Hospital. Mr Sherwood worked at Wellington Regional Hospital as
a registrar and then as a consultant orthopaedic and spinal
surgeon for 18 years.
He is passionate about international charitable mission surgery.
Over the years, he has developed strategic collegial relationships
with spinal surgeon colleagues in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel.
He has done three mission trips with volunteer spinal surgeons to
do scoliosis surgery at FOCOS Hospital in Ghana, Africa, being
involved with the FOCOS orthopaedic programme. He has
performed spine surgery in the pacific island of Tonga.
Dr Ate Moala - Practice Clinical Manager
MBChB 1986, Otago, MPH, FAFPHM 2003 Public Health
Dr Ate Moala graduated from Otago Medical school 32 years ago.
She has a wide range of clinical experience in hospital and
community medicine having worked in New Zealand and in the
Pacific.
She is a mother of three children. In her spare time, she prays and
runs Purely Girls Camp, a youth development programme for
teenage girls that she founded in 2007.
Master 'Amanaki Sherwood - Senior Office Assistant
'Amanaki has been drawing ever since he could hold a pen.
Patients and visitors to Pacific Orthopaedics will see some of
'Amanaki's awesome drawings on the wall. Most of these pictures
he drew at ages 3 and 4 years while he was patiently hanging
around waiting for his Dad to finish seeing the patients.

Mr Sai Vea - Practice Business Manager
MBA, BCA, CA, Dip Prof Accy - Accounting & Commercial Law (VUW, 2000)
Sai Vea is a NZ trained Chartered Accountant. Prior to joining
Pacific Orthopaedics in 2006, he had worked for five years at
Ernst & Young, Accounting Firm, in Assurance and Advisory
Services. He oversees the business and administrative aspects of
Pacific Orthopaedics. In addition to world travel, touch rugby and
playing his guitar, mentoring youth and investing in the wellbeing
of the next generation is something close to his heart.
